Holding Space

In Holding Space ontwikkelt Aminata Cairo een geheel eigen visie op het bereiken van inclusiviteit, die de beperkingen van standaardbenaderingen van diversiteitswerk ontstijgt. Zij onderbouwt haar visie met indigenous knowledge, blues aesthetics, holy hip hop en Caribische en zwart feministische theorieën. In korte persoonlijke verhalen neemt zij haar lezers mee op reis, met het uiteindelijke doel om gezamenlijk een nieuw verhaal te creëren. Puttende uit haar Surinaamse roots, haar Native American cultuur opvoeding en haar academische training, gebruikt zij persoonlijke verhalen om mensen te helpen verdiepen in de thema’s en stappen die nodig zijn op de weg naar een meer inclusieve gemeenschap. In haar boekpresentatie neemt zij vanaf het begin het publiek mee in het concept ‘Holding Space’. Met haar boekteksten, zang en dans nodigt zij het publiek uit om naar zichzelf en elkaar te kijken en zich af te vragen wat het vereist om gezamenlijk een omgeving van waardering en gelijkwaardigheid te creëren. Zij draagt de boodschap dat het om ons gaat, ons allemaal en dwingt ons om dat te horen, voelen en toe te eigenen.

Haar boekpresentatie is geen lezing, het is een interactieve ervaring. Reageren op Aminata tijdens de voorstelling kan in het Nederlands en in het Engels.

In Holding Space Aminata Cairo presents her own, unique vision in the promotion of inclusion that far surpasses the standard diversity & inclusion approach. She grounds her work in indigenous knowledge, the blues aesthetics, holy hip hop, and Caribbean and black feminist theories. She engages her audience utilizing storytelling, with the ultimate goal of creating a new story, collectively. Hailing from her Surinamese roots, her Native American nurturing, and academic training she uses personal stories to explore the themes and steps on a way to a more inclusive community. Her book presentation utilizes readings, song, and dance to challenge the audience to take a closer look at themselves and each other, raising the question what it really takes to collectively create an environment of equality and validation. It is about us, all of us, is her message, as she forces us to feel, hear, and own that.

Her book presentation is not a reading, it is an interactive experience. You can respond to Aminata during the performance in Dutch and in English.
