The Young Folk komt terug naar Volendam!
The Young Folk consist of Anthony Furey and Paul Butler. Both accomplished songwriters and singers in their own right, Anthony is an acoustic/electric guitarist, and Paul plays keys for the band. Both are multi instrumentalists. They have been creating music together for 12 years now. They are joined by Alex Borwick on mandolin, trombone, percussion and Marc Aubele on bass and synths. Alex, a New Zealand native is a sound engineer and producer in Dublin where has spent the last 6 years in Ireland honing his craft. Marc, an accomplished multi instrumentalist and sound engineer, has toured with numerous bands over the years including Bell X1, The Walls and Jack L.Having spent the last 4 years extensively touring Australia, New Zealand, Europe and America, playing such festivals as SXSW (USA), Eurosonic (Netherlands), Port Fairy (Australia), Cambridge Folk festival (England), Electric Picnic (Ireland), Dranouter (Belgium) and Black Sheep Festival (Germany), they have been lucky enough to share the stage with Villagers, Hozier, Gavin James, Tash Sultana, Lisa Hannigan, James Vincent McMorrow and many more.Their debut album, The Little Battle (2014), went to number two in the dutch charts and top 10 in the Irish charts. This coincided with two sell out tours of The Netherlands, playing in the infamous Paradiso and Melkweg in Amsterdam.Their second studio album, First Sign of Morning (2016), went to number 3 in the Irish charts and allowed them to break into Australia and New Zealand.
They have always been committed to writing lyrics relating to real issues concerning family, childhood memories and times of great personal value, which resonates with audiences immediately and have been compared to Crosby, Stills and Nash, Fleet Foxes, Bon Iver and Mumford and Sons. With their immaculate four piece harmonies, they have continued to win over audiences around the world. In the last year, after a 3 month tour of Australia and New Zealand, the band found themselves in a transitional period, changing members and the urge to create new music, they decided to take time out to start their third album. The Young Folk are going through a rebirth and 2020 promises to be an exciting year for the band, with the release of their third album, they’re planning an extensive tour of Australia in January, New Zealand in February, Europe in March and ending in their home country of Ireland April 2020.
